Asset Partition

A couple can for many reasons divide their assets prior to divorce through a legal partition agreement. We can help you sort through the advantages and disadvantages of this procedure.

Division of Property

Often a divorcing couple is surprised with the size of their net worth. Even people who considered themselves average working people may divide a million or more dollars when they consider their home, retirement and other assets.

The experienced attorneys at Dixie & Mauzy, L.L.P., can confer with the real estate appraiser and undertake a thorough evaluation to discover the actual net worth of the marital estate.

Adoption

Families comes in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes they are created through the extraordinary act of love known as adoption. We understand that helping you create or expand your family through adoption is a privilege. We assist you with the legal details, leaving you to focus your energies on a smooth transition for you and your loved ones.

Child Issues

We know that your children are your most precious assets. We are experienced and well equipped to guide you through a custody situation, to help you gain the possession or visitation schedule that represents the optimal legal result for you and your children.

Divorce

The unfortunate truth of our modern society is that the divorce rate in Texas, as in nearly every other state, is on the rise. You never think it will happen to your happy marriage. But when it does, you want a fair result. That’s where we can help.

Modification of Child Issues after a Divorce

In order to change a custody issue, including child support or visitation, a party must show a “material change of circumstance” since the last court order.  There must also be showing that the modification is in the child’s “best interest.”  Our team has the skill, experience and compassion to guide you through this litigation process.

Parentage Issues

We can identify a parentage through acceptable scientific methods. After parentage has been established, child support, visitation and other child issues can be resolved.

Possession and Visitation

Texas law generally requires both parties to stay significantly involved with the child.  But if a “standard visitation” schedule is not in the child’s best interest, then the court can and will make allowances, tailoring the visitation schedule to the child’s best interest.

Prenuptial Agreements

While not very romantic, these agreements are often a good idea for couples with large assets or couples contemplating a second marriage.
